Camel Safari

"The spirit of africa" - you can feel it even on Gran Canary on the back of camels! You don't believe it? Well, it is a fact that there are many camels on Gran Canary. They have been bred for centuries at camel farms. Today, many of them are sold to Arab countries. Therefore, you musn't miss the chance to do one of the many trekking routes on Gran Canary on camelback.

To mount a camel is an adventure itself. Although two riders can sit on a camel quite comfortably, the ride is always a bit shaky when the camel is moving along. An especially tricky moment comes, when the camel gets up, because camels always get up first with their hind legs - accompanied by a loud noise.

Steadily one can for example do a trip through the astonishing dunes at Mapalomas. Here one feels like being in the Sahara desert. One can enjoy the landscape, which is characterized by succulents, high dunes and the beach. The starting place for this camel tour is at the light house of Faro.

Another station for camel tours is located in the mountains of Gran Canary, near Fataga at the Camel Safari Park. During this tour one always takes a stint to the "valley with 1000 palm trees". In this oasis you can strengthen with with strong peppermint tea. There are also nice camel trips to the caves of the Guanches.
