Bathing bays at the north coast of Gran Canary

An impressive coastal line with bathing bays is located in the north of Gran Canary. The region is characterised by age-old Canaric laurels and pines. This is where steep rocks soar hundreds of metres directly at the Atlantic Ocean. An example for this is the world-famous steep coast Andén Verde.
The constantly blowin trade wind is another speciality of the north coast. The wind in interaction with the currents of the sea caters for a more humid climate, a greener landscape and is a precondition for the surf spots in the north and west of the island.
Also the north coast of Gran Canary is touristically less accessed. Some of the protected, wild and romantic rocky bays along the north coast are even used for film productions and they are a sleeper among location scouts.

Only a few beaches along the north coast are fully accessed. Especially between Sardina del Norte in the extremely remoted north and Galdar many smaller sandy and stony beaches are to be found.

Playa de la Aldea near San Nicolás is recommendable. The beach consists of black lava sand, that sparkles in the sun. This bathing bay scores with an amazing silhouette of the surrounding mounatins. This is where you can swim in the crystal clear Atlantic Ocean peaceably.
This is also for the beaches of San Lorenzo near Moya and Puerto de las Nieves near Agaete.
Of course, also the capital of the island Las Palmas fascinates its visitors. The cultural and communal centre of Gran Canary provides a lot of maritime flair with the harbour, the beautiful bathing bays, pools and close-by theme parks.
Most of the holiday-makers prefer the southern part of Gran Canary, but you will only get to know the personality of the island when you rent an accommodation in the north with locals all around. Along the lines of: Explore and get to know the country and its people.
